Type specific training

Boeing 737 Classic and 737 NG

Comair Aviation Training offers a variety of Pilot Training Courses. We offer general courses such as Multi Crew Co-ordination, Command preparation and RNAV(GNSS), however our main focus is on the Boeing 737 Type Aircraft.

Course options:

  • The Comair Aviation Training B737 NG Transition Training Type Rating Course syllabus is a Boeing 737-800 type rating course. The course exceeds the SACAA and ICAO minimum standards, and mirrors the Boeing Flight Training Footprint. The course is designed for pilots with more than 1500 hours experience.

    The course content includes:

    • Comprehensive Ground School phase
    • 5 Fixed Base Simulator Sessions (4 Hours each)
    • 9 Full Flight Simulator Sessions (4 Hours each)
    • A type rating test by an Examiner

    Pilots with South African licences will normally be tested by a Comair Designated Examiner as part of a quality control measure.

  • The Comair Aviation Training 737 NG Low Time Pilots Course is a Boeing 737 Type Rating course specifically designed for Pilots with less than 1500 hours total time who want to transition to a high performance jet powered aircraft. The course aims to bridge the gap between a newly qualified commercial pilot and the generally accepted minimum requirement for Airline employment of 1500 hours. It is designed to build the necessary knowledge and competency that would have been gained elsewhere. The pace of the course is designed to accommodate the average student. The Comair 737NG Low Time Pilot Transition Course exceeds the SACAA and ICAO minimum standard.

    The course content includes:

    • Comprehensive Ground School phase
    • Initial Multi-Crew Co-ordination Course
    • 9 Fixed Base Simulator Sessions (4 Hours each)
    • 9 Full Flight Simulator Sessions (4 Hours each)
    • A type rating test by an Examiner

    Pilots with South African licences will normally be tested by a Comair Designated Examiner as part of a quality control measure.

    When completing this type rating under the South African Civil Aviation regulations, the minimum crew experience to complete this course as ZFTT is 500 hours total flying hours or a 100 flight sectors on a relevant aircraft type. (CATS 61, Appendix 10.3)

  • Comair Training Centre offers Recurrent Training for both pilots and Operators. These checks are required every 6 months and consist of a minimum of two Simulator sessions for a natural crew. The testing may be completed by a Comair and SACAA Designated flight examiner as required.

  • Comair Training Centre offers differences training for pilots who are current and wishing to transition between the Boeing 737 Classic (300/400/500) to the Boeing 737-800 or visa-versa. This course includes a ground school followed by a minimum of 3 Full Flight Simulator sessions.

  • Comair Training Centre offers a reactivation course for pilots who previously flew the Boeing 737, but who have not flown the type for 2 years or more. This course includes a ground school followed by a shortened Full flights Simulator course of 8 sessions.

Non aircraft type specific courses

Course options:

  • The Jet Orientation and Introduction to Multi Crew Co-ordination (MCC) course is conducted in a Fixed Training Device (FTD). This module is designed as the Jet Orientation and basic initial multi-crew co-ordination course where the fundamentals of multi crew training are developed. It will focus on training and assessment of the candidate’s ability with regard to attitude flying, instrument flying and navigation exercises.

    The course content includes:

    • Ground School phase
    • 5 Simulator Sessions (Fixed Training Device - 4 Hours)

     

  • The full Multi-Crew Co-ordination course is recommended for low time pilots transitioning to the Airline environment. The fundamentals of Multi Crew training are taught and implemented. Training is conducted in a Fixed Training Device (FTD). The focus is on a balance of Multi-crew standard operating procedures, understanding instrument flying to a high standard as well as an introduction to the automated flight deck environment.

    The course content includes:

    • Ground School phase
    • 9 Simulator Sessions (Fixed Training Device - 4 Hours)

     

  • This course is designed as an Operator’s Command Candidate training and evaluation course only.

    The primary aim of the course is to equip a suitable candidate with the non-technical skills required to fulfil the role, to a high standard, as an airline commander. This is done with the aid of a comprehensive Crew Resource Management (CRM) ground school phase followed by a minimum five simulator sessions.

    The secondary aim of the course is to evaluate the candidate’s command ability and application of non-technical skills. The responsibility remains with the operator to asses and approve suitable candidates prior to commencing the course. This course is not designed as a candidate selection process.

  • This course is designed as an Operator’s Command Candidate training and evaluation with an added left seat pilot proficiency. The command evaluation phase is designed as a minimum five session course. The pilot proficiency phase is a two session simulator phase which may include and Instrument rating renewal, if required.

    The primary aim of the course is to equip a suitable candidate with the non-technical skills required to fulfil the role, to a high standard, as an airline commander.

    The secondary aim of the course is to evaluate the candidate’s command ability and application of non-technical skills. The responsibility remains with the operator to asses and approve suitable candidates prior to commencing the course. This course is not designed as a candidate selection process.
